This
site was created to inform supporters of Ayudamos of the work
that is being undertaken in Guatemala and specifically in our
project areas.
Guatemala is a land of paradoxes, exquisite natural
beauty mirrored by extreme poverty and the aftermath of war
and extremes of nature.
The author, W. George Lovell aptly describes it as, "A Beauty
That Hurts". The need in Guatemala is pressing. The further
one travels away from the capital, Guatemala City, the more evident
is the tragedy of the poor and disenfranchised. The official
language of Guatemala is Spanish; however, fully half the 11,000,000
plus population are indigenous people who speak a variety of
Mayan languages.
There is minimal education available for these proud people and
due to the gripping poverty; malnutrition is a leading cause
of death amongst children. There were many widows and orphans
left in the savage aftermath of the civil conflict in Guatemala.
These same people now try to eke out an existence without education,
government inversion or any means of support.
The Ayudamos Foundation is committed to co-creating sustainable
futures for these remarkable people….one family at a time.
