would
not be able to do the work it does without its many volunteers.
Our Calgary volunteers have spent thousands of hours assisting
at fundraising events, creating lesson plans, conducting research,
organizing volunteers or just assisting whenever help is needed.
Other volunteers have made the trip to Guatemala to work on current
projects in that country.
In
order to get a sense of the country, history and peoples
of Guatemala, people inquire about books they should read
before they travel there. These are some of our favorites:
Silence in the Mountains, Daniel Wilkinson Disappeared - A Journalist Silenced - The
Irma Flaquer Story, June Carolyn Erlick Men of Maize – The Modernist Epic of the Guatemalan Indians,
Miguel Angel Asturias, Nobel Prize Winner I Rigoberta, Rigoberta Menchu, Nobel Prize Winner The Long Night of White Chickens, Francisco Goldman The Blood of Guatemala – A History of Race and Nation,
Greg Grandin The Secrets of the Talking Jaguar, Martin
Prechtel The War for the Heart & Soul of a Highland Maya Town, Robert
S. Carlsen
